lores2South Shields-born Rob Lawson has returned to his roots with the launch of a new public relations company, based at the Quadrus Centre in Boldon.

Rob, 30, decided to set up Point Pleasant Communications after leaving his role as an account director in the Newcastle office of a national PR agency. He then worked with South Tyneside Means Business and Jarrow-based TEDCO to identify training and support opportunities for start-up ventures in the borough.

“Once I’d decided to go out on my own, it didn’t take me long to decide to locate in South Tyneside,” says Rob, who grew up in Harton Village, attending Whitburn Comprehensive School and South Tyneside College.  “There’s a huge amount of support out there, with great networking opportunites offered through South Tyneside Business Network.”

The name Point Pleasant Communications, which is inspired by the home of Rob’s grandmother in Wallsend, reflects the positive perception that a PR company aims to achieve for its clients. He has also introduced an inclusive package for local companies who want to try out a PR service, offering a press release, photography and distribution for a set price.

“Rob came to us with his initial ideas and we were able to assist him with the production of a business plan, as well as signposting training opportunities, sources of finance and research,” says Shelagh Barton, a business adviser at TEDCO. “He has also chosen to locate his office in the Quadrus Centre, our flagship facility for for high growth, service sector businesses.”

As well as local businesses in South Tyneside, Rob is also aiming to recruit clients in the online gambling  and professional services sectors, where he has specialist knowledge built up over nine years  in the PR industry.

He adds: “These are challenging times for the economy, but I’ve been hugely impressed by the positive attitude of business people here in South Tyneside and the way everyone works together for the benefit of the area. As my own business develops, I hope I can play my part in that.”
